Obituary of Hugh Robert Baird
It is with great sadness that the family of Hugh Baird announce his peaceful passing at the Lakeview Manor on Friday, October 25th, 2024. Hugh was born on October 27, 1933 in Reach Township and spent most of his life living on and working the century farm his family had held since 1826. He was a faithful member of the Greenbank United Church and an active member of the Ontario Plowman’s Association, Guernsey Breeders Association of Canda, the 4H Club, Junior Farmers as well as numerous choirs, including the County Town Singers and Port Perry Choral Society.
Hugh is mourned by his wife of 66 years, Roberta Baird (nee Bone). Loved father of Kenton Baird (Kerry), Robert Baird (Terri) and Jennifer Baird. Loving grandfather to Matthew Baird, Kathleen Baird, Jillian O’Conner, Patrick Baird, Quinton Baird, Graham Baird and Gibson Baird and great grandfather to Easton, Grayson, Jameson, Silas, Kendra, Lachlan, Aurora and Archer. Hugh was predeceased by his 5 older sisters Iva Phoenix (Fred), Glennys Simmons (Cecil), Helen Parish (Morley), Mona Mustard (Mac) and Marilyn Snoddon (Cecil).
Family will receive friends and family for visitation at the Greenbank United Church on Friday, November 1st from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. and on Saturday November 2nd from 10 – 11 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service in the Church. Interment McNeil Cemetery, Wick, for family only, directly after the service. A light lunch will be served by the women of the UCW at the Greenbank Church. If desired, memorial donations may be made in Hugh Baird’s name to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada, Oak Ridges Hospice in Port Perry, or the Greenbank United Church through the THORNE MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 98 River Street in Sunderland (705-432-2672).
